Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the format of the program?
A: We provide
an information-based production consisting of two editions:

* Mid-Atlantic Regional edition
- 3 minutes in length Mon - Fri and 8 minutes in length on Saturday.
Produced for Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland, Delaware
and Pennsylvania listeners.

* "Rural Almanac" National edition:
2 1/2 minutes in length Mon - Sat.
We
produce programs to air 6 days per week, 52 weeks per year (we cover
all holidays).
Q: When is the new
"Rural Almanac" National Edition available?
A: Our new national
program became available December 3, 2007. This is an
addition to the Mid-Atlantic regional program, which continues in
it's current format.
Q: Why is OTF Radio
expanding to include a national edition?
We began our radio
program in 2002 as a way to serve a specific audience in the following
states: Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland,
Delaware and Pennsylvania. In the past two years, we have regrettably been forced to
turn away numerous new affiliate requests because they were located
outside of this region. It is obvious to us that many radio stations
across the nation are having difficulty in finding programming to serve
their listeners in a rural and agricultural setting. This is the reason
we started the new "Rural Almanac" National Edition - to meet the demand for a
short-length, daily, rural issues radio program.
Q: When should the program be
broadcast?
A: The program is targeted at adult
listeners in the rural and agricultural community. People in this
population group tend to be early risers. The weekday program should air
between 5:00 am and 7:00 am Monday – Friday. Due to advertising client
demand, many of our affiliates also
air the program a second time during the lunch hour. The Saturday
program should air anytime between 5:00 am and noon.
Q: How is the program delivered?
A: All
programs are distributed electronically via download (or e-mail) in MP3
format.

Q: What happens if there is a technical
glitch receiving the program?
A: We provide each affiliate with an
“emergency backup CD” just in case of a technical snafu. This CD
contains numerous "evergreen" (undated) programs.
Q: What are the terms of affiliation?
A: On The Farm is offered on
a barter basis with market exclusivity for your primary listening area.
We do not require a long-term commitment; either party can cancel with
30 days notice. We want the show to air only on stations that believe in
it and are committed to promoting it.
Q: Do you provide promo spots?
A: Yes. At your request, we will record a
custom promo spot or bump. Tell us what you need and we deliver.
Q: Should we cluster these programs with
other news segments?
A: After many years of experience, we’ve
found most rural listeners and farmers want to know three things from
their radio program: 1) the weather situation, 2) market prices, and 3)
what is happening in the rural and agricultural community.
We recommend the following
cluster:
1. local weather
forecast
2.
local
sponsorship commercial
3. On the Farm
program
4. additional
local
commercial
5. market prices
(contact your state Dept. of Agriculture for a free daily fax, e-mail,
or phone report.)
Q: What if listeners want to get in
contact with OTF Radio?
