June 16: Large Animal Composting
Workshop; Reading, PA; With pending regulations to the rendering
process, the availability and economics of using rendering as a source of
mortality disposal is becoming more difficult. Composting is one of the
approved mortality disposal methods, but it needs to be done correctly. Penn
State Cooperative Extension hosts this workshop to discuss the proper site
placement for large animal composting, how to setup composting piles, and
what routine maintenance is needed to ensure success. Time: 7:00 PM; The

June 20: Integrated Parasite
Management (IPM) Workshop, Princess Anne, Md.; Hosted by Maryland
Cooperative Extension at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. The IPM
Workshop is an opportunity for sheep and goat owners to learn strategies for
recognizing parasite loads in their animals. This hands-on, interactive
program is designed to assist sheep and goat owners in reducing the amount
of deworming medication they use through a number of strategies for
recognizing parasite loads, including use of the FAMACHA© chart. The program
will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Center for Food Science and
Technology building. The workshop fee is $20 and participants will receive
FAMACHA charts for use with their own animals. Lunch will be provided.
Pre-registration and payment required no later than Tuesday, June 16, and

Day; Statesville, NC; This program will educate youth on animal
and food aspects of the North Carolina Dairy Industry. Various "hands-on"
30-minute workshops will be held. Learn about: dairy judging, skill-a-thon,
quiz bowl, fitting and showmanship, and dairy foods. Lunch will be provided.
