Farm tractor sales were down 15% in 2022; combine sales rise by 16%


According to the Association of Equipment Manufacturer's monthly "Flash Report," farm tractor sales were down 15% in 2022 when compared to 2021.


The sale of all tractors during the month of December 2022 in the U.S. were down 18% from the same month the previous year. In December, a total of 20,363 tractors were sold which compares to 24,846 sold in 2021.


For the month of December, two-wheel drive smaller tractors (under 40 HP) were down 27% from last year, while 40 & under 100 HP were down 9%. Sales of 2-wheel drive 100+ HP were down 3%, while 4-wheel drive tractors were up 33%.


For the year, two-wheel drive smaller tractors (under 40 HP) are down 19% from last year, while 40 & under 100 HP are down 11%. Sales of 2-wheel drive 100+ HP are down 2%, while 4-wheel drive tractors are up 16%.


Combine sales in December totaled 765, which is up 16% from last year. Year to date sales of combines in 2022 total 7,267, an increase of 16% from the same period in 2021.
