Less beef, more chicken expected on the table in 2025
May 21, 2024 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture is projecting Americans will be eating less beef and more chicken in 2025.
A new report from the USDA’s Economic Research Service indicates per capita disappearance of beef is expected to drop from 58 pounds per person in 2024 to 55 pounds per person in 2025. During the same period, per capita disappearance of chicken is expected to increase from 101 pounds to 102 pounds.
Turkey, pork, and lamb disappearance levels should remain relatively flat.
Cattle prices are projected to reach new highs in 2025, while the import forecast is expected to set another record. Beef exports are forecast to decline by more than 11 percent, according to the report.
