NC State publishes new guide to organic lawn care


NC State Cooperative Extension has just posted a new “Organic Lawn Care Guide” publication.


Natural or “organic” methods of lawn care can provide more than just a sense of protecting the environment. Organic lawn care emphasizes selection of the right turfgrass for the location and good management to maintain a healthy lawn. Tips include:

  • Mow only when the soil and plants are dry to reduce the risk of spreading disease and injuring the turf

  • Allow clippings to remain on the lawn. They can reduce the need for fertilizer by 20-30%.

  • Select a disease-resistant turfgrass adapted to your region
