Pennsylvania ranks #2 in the nation in horticulture operations and #10 in total sales
HARRISBURG, PA --- Pennsylvania producers sold $310 million in horticulture products in 2019, according to King Whetstone, director of the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), Northeastern Regional Field Office. This places Pennsylvania tenth nationally in total horticulture sales according to the most recent Census of Horticultural Specialties.
In 2019, the United States had 20,655 horticultural operations that produced and sold $13.8 billion in floriculture, nursery, and other horticultural specialty products. Pennsylvania had 1,365 horticultural operations, compared to 1,397 horticultural operations that sold $327 million in horticultural products in 2014.
The 2019 Horticulture Census is a special study conducted by U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) and is part of the 2017 Census of Agriculture program.
