Record corn crop ahead in TN?
NASHVILLE, TN - Corn production in Tennessee was forecast at 170 million bushels, up 21% from the previous crop and a potential record. Yield was estimated at 173 bushels per acre, up 3 bushels from the 2020 level. Acres for harvest as grain were estimated at 980,000 acres, up 155,000 acres from 2020.
Soybean production for Tennessee was forecast at 79.4 million bushels, decreased 2% from 2020. Yield was estimated at 49.0 bushels per acre, down 1.0 bushels from a year ago. Acreage for harvest as beans was estimated at 1.62 million acres, unchanged acres from the previous year.
Tennessee farmers expect to harvest 23.7 million bushels of winter wheat during 2021. The expected crop for 2021 would be up 75% from the previous year. Growers expect a yield of 74.0 bushels per acre, up 15.0 bushel from 2020 and unchanged from July. Farmers expect to harvest 320,000 acres for grain. Winter wheat production for the Nation was forecast at 1.32 billion bushels, up 13% from 2020.
Tennessee cotton production is projected to be 655,000 bales, up 7% from last year. Cotton yields are forecast to average 1,031 pounds per acre, down 35 pounds per acre from the previous year. Producers expect to harvest 305,000 acres, up 30,000 acres from 2020.
