TN crop yield forecast is highly variable
Tennessee cotton production is projected to be 650,000 bales, down 16% from the August forecast and down 32% from last year. Cotton yields are forecast to average 1,135 pounds per acre, up 57 pounds from last month and down 3 pounds per acre from the previous year. Producers expect to harvest 275,000 acres, down 70,000 acres from the August forecast and down 130,000 acres from 2020.
Corn production in Tennessee is forecast at 157 million bushels, down 2% from the August forecast and down 3% from the previous crop. Yield was estimated at 174.0 bushels per acre, down 4.0 bushels from last month and down 3.0 bushels from the 2019 level. Acres for harvest as grain were estimated at 900,000 acres, down 10,000 acres from 2019.
Soybean production for Tennessee is forecast at 78.5million bushels, up 2% from the August forecast and up 22% from 2019. Yield was estimated at 50.0 bushels per acre, up 1 from last month and up 3.0 bushels from a year ago. Acreage for harvest as beans was estimated at 1.57million acres, up 200,000 acres from the previous year.
