USDA: Frozen turkey inventories down 24% from 3-yr average

Source: USDA News Release

The USDA reports inventories of frozen whole turkeys and turkey parts are 24 percent lower than the 3-year average. Officials say stocks of frozen turkeys are lower this fall partly because production of turkeys has been lower than average this year. They blame the reduction on high feed prices. #2 yellow corn was well over $7 per bushel this spring – up by more than 40% at one time - and turkey companies simply cut back on production cycles.

Most industry analysts seem to agree there probably won’t be a turkey SHORTAGE for the holidays, but it may behoove you to go ahead and get that turkey now, and don’t wait until the last minute.
