USDA: September milk production and prices vary in the Northeast

Fluid milk production and prices were highly variable during the month of September in New York, Pennsylvania and Vermont.


Milk production in New York during September 2023 totaled 1.31 billion pounds, up 2.0 percent from September 2022. The average milk price received by New York farmers in August 2023, at $20.50 per hundredweight, is $1.70 higher than July 2023 but $5.40 lower than August a year ago.


Milk production in Pennsylvania during September 2023 totaled 785 million pounds, down 0.1 percent from September 2022. The average milk price received by Pennsylvania farmers in August 2023, at $20.20 per hundredweight, is $1.50 higher than July 2023 but $6.00 lower than August a year ago.


Milk production in Vermont during September 2023 totaled 203 million pounds, down 1.9 percent from September 2022. The average milk price received by Vermont farmers in August 2023, at $20.90 per hundredweight, is $1.70 higher than July 2023 but $5.40 lower than August a year ago.
