Virginia ranks #6 in nation for certified organic chicken broiler production

December 23, 2022 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture recently released survey data from organic farming operations across the United States. The survey covered calendar year 2021.

The survey indicated the top ten states for certified organic chicken broiler production were:

#1 Pennsylvania - $638.3 million (value of sales)

#2 California - $318 million

#3 North Carolina – $202.2 million

#4 Nebraska - $103.9 million

#5 Washington - $62.7 million

#6 Virginia - $60.3 million

#7 Maryland - $19.5 million

#8 Iowa - $18.1 million

#9 West Virginia - $14.5 million

#10 New York - $.8 million

The value of sales from the top five states were equivalent to 88% of all certified organic chicken broiler production in the United States in 2021.
