Clemson to combine Public Service Agriculture with College of Agriculture, Forestry and Life Science

November 10, 2023 - Clemson’s College of Agriculture, Forestry and Life Sciences (CAFLS) and the University’s Division of Public Service and Agriculture (PSA) will be merged into one administrative and academic unit, Provost Bob Jones announced.

The integration of PSA and CAFLS will optimize the work of both areas and support the University’s strategic vision, Clemson Elevate, and the University’s land grant mission to provide world-class teaching, research and public service to the state.

“The combination of CAFLS and PSA will drive both outcomes and efficiencies in the critical areas of agriculture — through public service, research, extension and academic curricula, to continue the vital land grant mission of Clemson University,” Provost Jones said. “I’m tremendously appreciative of the leadership of vice president George Askew and interim dean Greg Yarrow for their support and work toward this integration of units.”

A nationwide search for a new dean will begin shortly, and the selected candidate will serve as the chief academic and administrative officer for the college and PSA units.

Askew, currently Vice President for Public Service and Agriculture, and a former dean of the college, will continue to serve as a special advisor to Provost Jones, and will work closely with interim dean Yarrow and the new dean to support the integration of the administrative functions of the new division. In his new role, Askew will also work across all University colleges to coordinate statewide outreach and impact in support of the Clemson Elevate initiatives.

The transition of the new units begins Dec. 1.
