Value of hay in WV was up by $11 per ton in '23

Charleston, West Virginia – The value of all hay production in West Virginia totaled $155.09 million in 2023, a 5 percent increase from the 2022 value of $148.11 million. The average price received per ton was $148.00. This was up $11.00 per ton from the 2022 average price of $137.00 per ton.

The value of alfalfa hay production totaled $6.17 million in 2023, a 12 percent decrease from the 2022 value of $7.04 million. The average price received per ton was $199.00. This was down $2.00 per ton from the 2022 average price of $201.00 per ton.

The value of all other hay production totaled $148.92 million in 2023, a 6 percent increase from the 2022 value of $141.08 million. The average price received per ton was $146.00. This was up $11.00 per ton from the 2022 average price of $135.00 per ton.
