Summer forecast looks promising for farms in the Southeast
May 10, 2024 - The National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center recently published their precipitation forecast for the months of May, June, and July, 2024.
Farmers in the Southeastern United States should expect above-normal rainfall for the next three months. Mid-to-late May should also bring more precipitation than normal.
The 90-day forecast calls for above-normal precipitation in the states of North Carolina and South Carolina, and portions of Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, Alabama, and West Virginia.
The month of April was relatively dry in portions of the Mid-Atlantic Region including Virginia. Drought is unlikely to occur in states east of the Mississippi River according to the latest forecast.
